Kurma Purana

The Kurma Purana is named after Kurma, the tortoise avatar of Vishnu. The text is one of the 18 Mahapuranas, and manuscripts of it have survived into modern times in many versions. The  critical edition has 95 chapters. Tradition says the original text had 17,000 verses, but extant manuscripts only have about 6,000.
